Bridge the gaps around the technology

The access plan is connected. The materials should be too.

An effective AT solution rarely lives in one device. People need familiar vocabulary, recognizable visuals, low-tech backups, and clear implementation supports that travel with them.

The disconnected workflow

One person. Too many separate materials.

A change to the access plan can trigger the same editing work across multiple tools, files, formats, and team members.

  • Search againFind new images for each document or setting.
  • Rebuild againReformat the same vocabulary for device, print, and instruction.
  • Explain againHelp every partner understand what to use and when.
  • Lose consistencyDifferent visuals can increase the learning burden.

Helpful answers before you begin

Questions AT professionals often ask.

Clear answers about what Studio is, which access-related templates it includes, how interactive activities work, protecting personal information, and trying the complete platform.

Is Smarty Symbols Studio an AAC app or speech-generating device?

No. Studio is a symbol-based creation platform for printables, display overlays, visual supports, and customizable on-screen activities. It does not turn a computer or tablet into a speech-generating AAC device. Smarty Symbols’ speech-generating AAC product is Expressive Go.

Which access-related templates are included?

Studio includes editable display overlays for Big Beamer, Big Step-by-Step, BigMack, iTalk2, iTalk4, LittleMack, Little Step-by-Step, QuickTalker formats, and TalkingBrix 2. It also includes multiple eye-gaze frames, First–Then supports, schedules, sequences, labels, tables, and flexible blank layouts.

Can I create low-tech communication boards and eye-gaze supports?

Yes. You can create and print personalized communication boards, choice displays, partner-supported materials, and eye-gaze frame layouts. The AT professional determines the vocabulary, field size, positioning, symbol representation, and access plan appropriate for the person.

Does Game Center provide switch scanning or another access method?

Game Center provides customizable on-screen visual activities; it is not itself an access method. Compatibility with switches, alternative pointing, eye-gaze hardware, or other input technology depends on the person’s device, browser, operating system, and configured access setup.

Can I make materials for children, teens, and adults?

Yes. The symbol library represents people of different ages and includes vocabulary for home, school, healthcare, employment, and community settings. You choose the symbols, language, format, and visual complexity appropriate for the individual and purpose.

Can I save and revise a support when needs change?

Yes. Save the project as an editable resource, then return to change vocabulary, symbols, steps, directions, field size, colors, or layout. You can also duplicate a useful project before creating a related version for another routine or environment.

Can I upload my own images, and are they automatically shared?

Yes. You can upload personal photographs and other images for use in your projects. Personal uploads are not automatically published to the Community Library. Follow your employer’s privacy requirements and obtain any required authorization before uploading identifying or sensitive images.

Do students or clients need their own accounts?

No. The professional creates and manages the resource. Printables can be downloaded for use, and Game Center activities can be launched without creating a separate student or client account.

What happens after the 14-day free trial?

The trial includes the complete Studio. Unless you cancel before it ends, access continues on the annual AT professional plan at $89 per year. Future renewal can be managed through your account.

Can an AT program or organization purchase access for multiple staff members?

Yes. Smarty Symbols offers organization access for schools, districts, AT programs, lending libraries, clinics, and interdisciplinary teams. Multi-user purchasing can include centrally managed staff access, purchase-order support, and organization pricing.
