After downloading the PDF located at the end of this page, you’ll notice three screen pages within the document. The first page is a faithful representation of the app, showcasing the target words exactly as they appear within the app interface.

The third screen (which is on the 5th page of the PDF) presents a key of original text for each symbol, which can aid your search for these symbols on our website. Please note that the wording might not always match exactly.

We’ve licensed Smarty Symbols to a variety of companies and app developers, allowing for broad use of the symbols without any restrictions. The team behind Speak for Yourself chose to modify the target word for some symbols. Therefore, some symbols may match our library exactly, while others might not. To find equivalent words on our website, please refer to the key page in the PDF.

Additionally, the Speak for Yourself app licensed our images in 2011. Since then, we’ve made various updates to improve the clarity and consistency of our symbols. The app’s developers chose not to update the symbols within the app; for more information on this decision, please contact them directly.

If you’ve searched both the app (using the edit button) and the key in the PDF, yet still can’t locate a particular symbol, there are a few possible explanations. Some symbols have been updated or retired (in 2013), while others have been given a fresh new look for clarity. If you’re still unable to find a symbol, don’t worry! We have a vast selection of alternatives available on our website for you to choose from.
